Nuttea Haze – Reggae Roots Meet Classic Haze

Nuttea (Olivier Lara, born in 1968 in Guadeloupe) is one of the key figures of French reggae and ragga. He emerged through the High Fight International sound system alongside Tonton David at the end of the 1980s, scored major successes in the 1990s and early 2000s (Agitateur with Pierpoljak, Elle te rend dingue, collaborations with IAM), and has remained a respected voice of conscious Caribbean reggae in France.

The variety that bears his name was created as a direct tribute. French Touch crossed the elite Amnesia Haze “Core Cut” — the clone-only phenotype that dominated Amsterdam coffeeshops for years and that many consider the purest lemon-incense expression of Amnesia — with Champ’Haze, a Haze selected by the FTS collective from an unknown seed lot grown at altitude in the Pyrenees. The Core Cut itself is famous for its sharp lemon-Haze profile, vigorous sativa structure, and long-lasting cerebral effects.

Nuttea received Viking from the collective at his home in Paris to talk about the idea and share his tastes as a ganja smoker, with several samples of varieties in progress. The Haze family was his favorite smoke. This cross was ready but not yet released by FTS, and it was only natural that the collective chose it for this tribute to the artist.

Nuttea Haze therefore sits at the intersection of two worlds: the classic European Haze culture that defined coffeeshop cannabis for decades, and the French Caribbean reggae scene that has always celebrated herb as part of cultural resistance and celebration. The high is active, psychedelic, and lasting — exactly the kind of energetic, creative lift associated both with old-school Haze and with the music of the man it honors.
